You can start the UEFI/BIOS of your computer or laptop directly from Windows 11. We’ll show you how it works.
How to open UEFI/BIOS in Windows 11
If you want to start the UEFI / BIOS of your Windows 11 computer, you can do so by pressing a specific key during the boot process. This key varies depending on the manufacturer, but it is usually [Del] or one of the F keys (F2 or F10). However, you only have a short time to do this during bootup. It is easier to do this directly from Windows:
- Press the key combination [Win] + [i] to open the Windows 11 settings.
- In the System section, select the Recovery sub-item.
- Next to Advanced startup, click the “Restart now” button. Confirm the process by clicking on “Restart now” again.
- Now select Troubleshoot first, then Advanced options.
- Right-click on UEFI Firmware Settings.
- Clicking on the Restart button will start your computer in BIOS or UEFI.
Alternative: Start the BIOS/UEFI from Windows using a keyboard shortcut
You can also restart your computer’s BIOS or UEFI using a keyboard shortcut:
- Click the Start button in the Windows 11 taskbar.
- Then click on the Power button at the bottom right of the Start menu.
- Now press and hold the [Shift] key on your keyboard. Now left-click on Restart in the context menu of the On/Off button. Only then release the [Shift] key and wait until the computer has restarted.
- You will now see a menu with a blue background. Select Troubleshoot> Advanced options> UEFI Firmware Settings > Restart. The computer will now start directly in UEFI or BIOS.
