The rules of Rummikub are not too complicated. With a little practice and skill, you will quickly master the game and be among the winners.
Rules for Rummikub: This is the aim of the game
Rummikub is a popular board game for adults that was invented in the 1930s. The game became really popular when it was named Game of the Year in 1980. Since then, Rummikub has sold millions of copies. The rules of the game are easy to explain.
- There are 52 tiles in total. The tiles come in black, blue, red, and yellow, with numbers from 1 to 13. Each of these tiles comes twice. There are also two jokers.
- At the start of the game, each player draws 14 tiles at random and places them in front of them. Of course, the other players should not see the tiles.
- The aim of the game is to be the first to lay down all your tiles. There are certain rules for laying down the tiles.
- It is also important to have as few tiles with as low a number value as possible in your hand at the end of the game. The values of the remaining tiles are recorded as minus points at the end of the game.
Game instructions – explained simply
Rummikub is a game with numbers. First, decide who gets to start the game. There are no rules for this. Draw lots to decide who starts, or let the youngest player begin.
- Place all the tiles face down on the table. Each player then draws 14 tiles and places them in front of them on the rack.
- Each player must score at least 30 points in their first turn. This means that the numbers on the tiles they lay down must add up to at least 30.
- You can lay down sequences of the same color (e.g., 4, 5, 6 in blue) or groups (e.g., 7 in red, 7 in yellow, 7 in blue). However, there must always be at least 3 tiles together on the playing field. A joker can represent any tile.
- If you cannot score the required 30 points, draw one of the face-down tiles. It is then the next player’s turn.
- Any player who has managed to score at least 30 points can now add the remaining tiles to rows that have already been laid out. If you cannot do this, draw a new tile.
- You can also recombine existing rows on the table. For example, you can remove a tile from a combination of 4 to form a new row with two other tiles from your hand. The only rule for new combinations is that at the end of your turn, there must always be valid combinations of at least 3 tiles on the table.
- The first player to get rid of all their tiles wins. All other players add up the values of their remaining tiles and receive these as minus points. The winner receives all minus points as plus points. A joker is worth 30 minus points.
