Gluten-free sweets – these are available

by Michaela

If you suffer from gluten intolerance but still like to snack, there are a few gluten-free sweets you can switch to. And don’t worry: the list doesn’t just include sweet fruits.

Gluten-free sweets: in fruit gum and chocolate paradise

If you cannot tolerate gluten or have to avoid it for other health reasons, you already feel restricted in your diet. If you have a real sweet tooth, looking at candy wrappers can be all the more frustrating. This is because many products that you might not have expected contain wheat or gluten-containing additives – often hidden. However, there are now plenty of gluten-free sweets that you can buy.

  • A classic among gluten-free sweets are fruit gums – but not all of them. Many contain wheat starch or gelatin-based binding agents. A safe choice is Pural’s “Tutti Frutti”:

These colorful fruit gummies are not only gluten-free, but also vegan and gelatin-free – ideal for people with multiple intolerances or a plant-based diet.

  • Other brands such as De Bron also offer a wide selection of gluten-free fruit gummies and candies – with transparent labeling and no artificial additives. Even Haribo and Maoam have some gluten-free sweets. These include Happy Cherries, Maoam Kracher, Happy Cola, and Primavera Strawberries.
  • Gluten-free gummy bears are also available from Katjes – these include Grünohrbärchen, Yoghurt-Gums, and Katzen Ohren. Trolli also offers a wide selection of gluten-free treats.
  • If you also have to contend with fructose, you can try Frusano fruit gums and candies—some of which are gluten-free and purely plant-based.
  • Chocolate is not automatically gluten-free either – you should be especially careful with filled varieties. Schoko Wunderland is a brand that specializes in explicitly gluten-free chocolate. It also promotes the health benefits of antioxidants from high-quality cocoa – a delicious and conscious snacking alternative.
  • If you’re craving chocolate, you can also enjoy Yogurette without worry. Ritter Sport also offers several chocolate bars that are gluten-free. These include the whole nut, marzipan, and nougat varieties.

Gluten-free snacks: From chips to popcorn

If you’re in the mood for gluten-free snacks, there’s now a good selection available. And sometimes, even if you have a gluten intolerance, you can enjoy a slice of ready-made cake – gluten-free, of course.

    • At first glance, chips seem unproblematic—after all, they usually consist only of potatoes, oil, and salt. However, flavored varieties often contain gluten-containing spice mixtures or flavorings.
    • If you fancy some chips, you can try Pom-Bären. There are other types of chips from Funny-Frisch that are gluten-free, including Ungarisch, Jumpys, and Ringli. However, you should take a close look at the gluten-free varieties from Funny-Frisch: even if the package says “gluten-free,” it is advisable to check the list of ingredients to rule out hidden sources of gluten such as flavor extracts or modified starch.
    • Popcorn is also usually gluten-free—but flavored varieties, such as caramel, cheese, or butter, may contain gluten-containing additives. It is best to make your own popcorn or choose certified gluten-free products from brands such as Propercorn and Chio.
    • It is particularly difficult to find gluten-free alternatives for baked goods such as cakes and cookies. However, there are some brands that offer gluten-free ready-made mixes and baked goods. These include Schär, Coppenrath, and RUF.
    • Tip: Many grocery stores have a section where you can find all gluten-free foods. This gives you a good overview of your options. Always look for certified products and clear labeling. Don’t rely on ingredient lists alone; look specifically for the gluten-free seal or check the manufacturer’s information.
