You can reheat rolls not only in the oven, but also in the microwave. However, depending on whether you have an appliance with or without a hot air function, the results can vary considerably. You can find out more in our kitchen tip below.
Reheating rolls in the microwave: With the hot air function
The easiest way to reheat rolls from the day before is in the oven. This will make the rolls nice and warm and crispy again. If you want to leave the oven cold, you can use your microwave instead.
- If you have a microwave with a hot air or convection function, you can use it like an oven.
- Preheat the microwave oven to 150 °C.
- Place the rolls on the microwave rack lined with baking paper.
- Brush the surface of the baked goods with a little water or milk. This will make the rolls nice and crispy when reheating and prevent them from drying out.
- Bake the rolls in the microwave for about 5 minutes.
- Tip: The exact baking time in the microwave depends on your appliance. Therefore, check every now and then to see if the rolls are ready.
Reheating rolls in the microwave: Without the hot air function
If your microwave does not have a special hot air function, you can use it to reheat old rolls, but not to bake them. This means that your baked goods will not become crispy again with the normal microwave function, as if they were fresh from the bakery, but only warm.
- Place the rolls on the microwave rack.
- Brush them with a little water or milk. This will prevent the baked goods from drying out during reheating.
- Reheat the rolls at a low wattage (around 250 watts, depending on the appliance) for 10 to 20 seconds.
- Eat the reheated rolls immediately if possible, as they will quickly become hard.
