Portioning pasta made easy: We show you how simple it can be and how much spaghetti per person is really necessary. So you’ll never cook too much pasta again.
How much spaghetti per person: these are rough guidelines
There are certain guidelines that help you cook the right amount of spaghetti. The most important factors are whether the pasta is a side dish or the main ingredient and whether it is fresh pasta. Here are the guidelines:
- Side dish with dried pasta: 50 to 75 grams
- Side dish with fresh spaghetti: 150 grams
- Main course with dried pasta: 100 to 125 grams
- Main course with fresh pasta: 190 grams
Measuring pasta without scales: what helps
If you want to be really precise, it’s best to use kitchen scales to weigh the pasta. But there’s an easier way:
- So-called spaghetti portioners help you cook the right amount of pasta.
- Spaghetti spoons can do more than just lift spaghetti out of the pot. The hole in the middle helps you measure out the required amount of dry pasta for one person.
- Place the tip of your index finger at the “base” of your thumb, and the hole will measure out a portion of pasta. However, depending on the size of your hand, this may be larger.
- Don’t want to measure and weigh anything? Then just cook the whole 500-gram package and eat as much as you want until you’re no longer hungry. Theoretically, one package is enough for four people.
