Unlocking the White Palace in Hollow Knight: How to do it
The White Palace in Hollow Knight must first be unlocked. To do this, you must interact with the corpse of a knight in the Palace Grounds and use the “Awoken Dream Nail” on it. You will then have access to the new area. You can obtain the “Awoken Dream Nail” in the following way:
- To craft an “Awoken Dream Nail,” you must bring the Seer 1,800 Essence and a “Dream Nail.” You can obtain Essence from enemies such as Warrior Dreams or Whispering Root Trees.
- Once you have the Essence and the nail, the Seer will upgrade them. You now have the necessary item at hand.
- Return to the Palace Grounds and use the item on the deceased knight. You will then be sent to the White Palace.
Tips and tricks for the difficult White Palace
The White Palace is considered one of the highlights of Hollow Knight due to its difficult level design. The palace consists of three levels and must be completed in order to obtain the second half of the Kingsoul Charm. The following tips will help you avoid dying constantly:
- Take your time: The individual compartments always have a sequence that does not change and can be learned with enough patience. Except for the enemies, the White Palace is a fairly slow-paced area.
- Rhythm: Once you have internalized the system of the individual stages, you still need to find a rhythm. Only if you stay “in sync” will you reach the next section.
- Charms for more control: Use talismans such as “Sharp Shadow” to optimize your movements. This charm allows you to dash through enemies and increases the damage you cause in the process. - Hiveblood Charm: Hiveblood is the essential charm. It slowly recharges your health without you having to do anything. With Hiveblood, you ensure a permanent HP supply.
- Dash Master Charm: Increase your mobility with the Dash Master Charm. This allows you to dash more frequently and faster, which is very useful in the complex platforming sections of the White Palace.
- Shortcuts: Keep an eye out for shortcuts. These require some skill, but can permanently reduce the time spent in the White Palace. Shortcuts are quite common in this area.
- Pogo Bounce: You can avoid the saw blades and spikes much better with a Pogo Bounce. With the right timing, you can jump over them safely and even touch them. For a Pogo Bounce, you have to attack downwards, which takes some practice.
- Pale King: Once you reach the end of the palace, you have to hit the Pale King’s corpse several times in a row. This will drop the coveted item.
