If you want to use your PS3 controller on your PC, you can do so easily with a little workaround. We’ll show you how, step by step.
Instructions: Using a PS3 controller on a PC
While you can simply plug the PS4 controller into your PC, it’s not quite as easy with the PS3. The driver is only unofficially available for Windows. But you can read here how to make it work anyway:
- First, you need at least Microsoft .NET Framework 4 and the Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013.
- Download the programs from the Microsoft website and start the installation.
- If you are using Windows 7 or older, you will also need the Microsoft driver for the Xbox 360 controller.
- Now download the driver for the PS3 controller. You can find it in the PCsx2 forum, among other places. Click on “Download latest version here.”
- Open the downloaded ZIP file and extract the entire contents to your desktop.
- In the “SpcServer” and ‘bin’ folders, you will find the file “SpcDriver.exe.” Right-click on the file and select “Run as administrator.”
- Connect the PS3 controller to your PC via USB cable and activate the “Configure Service” and “Bluetooth Driver” options during installation.
- After installation, you can check the functionality of the controller using “ScpMonitor.exe.”
