Removing hair dye from furniture is a tricky business. Depending on the degree of soiling, household remedies can help you remove stains from your furniture.
Removing hair dye from furniture: baking soda
Baking soda is an all-rounder among household remedies. Not only does it remove odors, it can also deal with most stains. Give it a try if you see stains on your furniture :
- Mix 125 g baking soda with a little water. You should get a paste that you can apply to the stains.
- Pour the baking soda paste onto a cloth. Test the home remedy on a less visible area first to see if it can harm your sofa or bed.
- Then rub the stains with the paste. Allow it to dry thoroughly.
- Then remove the paste with a damp cloth. Vacuum up the residue with a vacuum cleaner.
These products also help with hair dye stains
The drier the stain, the more difficult it is to remove. It is therefore best to remove hair dye immediately with water to avoid risking stains. Otherwise, depending on the material, the following products can help:
- Scouring milk: For smooth surfaces that are less sensitive to scratches, for example scouring milk is suitable. Rub the surface carefully with it to remove the paint stains.
- Leather care: Stains on leather are difficult to remove. It is therefore best to wipe off the paint stain with water first. If this has no effect, use a suitable leather care product for your piece of furniture.
- Vinegar cleaner: A homemade vinegar cleaner made from water and a small amount of vinegar is suitable for textiles. Test a small area first to see if the cleaner damages your furniture or is too aggressive.
- Dirt eraser: A dirt eraser can be a good help on smooth surfaces, such as acrylic or wooden tables. This usually also removes stubborn stains.
- Acetone-free nail polish remover: Test an acetone-free nail polish remover on a less visible area. This will ensure that your furniture is not damaged. Then rub carefully over the hair dye stain. Please note that the product may leave a lighter or darker spot on the furniture.
