If you want to clean your oven thoroughly, you should remove the oven door. This is the only way to reach all the areas where dirt and grime accumulate. We will show you how to do this step by step.
Removing the oven door – how it works
With new ovens, you can usually simply unhinge the door. Only some older models do not offer this convenience.
Depending on the oven, the door is removed in slightly different ways. If the following instructions do not help, please refer to the manual. You can often find the operating instructions on the manufacturer’s website.
Removing the oven door
Instructions: How to properly remove the oven door – this works for most models
Open the oven door and locate the mechanism on the two hinges.
This usually involves lifting a piece of metal, pushing it to the side, or pulling it.
Always hold the door with one hand or support it with an object.
Close the door halfway, then you can pull it upwards and unhook it.
Tip: Hold the door on the left and right sides, not on the door handle.
Cleaning the removed oven door
To clean the door, you can also remove the glass panels on many appliances. This usually requires loosening a few screws.
When cleaning the glass panel, take care not to scratch it. Dish soap and hot water are sufficient for light soiling.
If you haven’t cleaned your oven in a while, you may need to resort to stronger measures. We’ll show you how to properly clean your heavily soiled oven in the next tip.
