Using milk against aphids – here’s how

by Pramith

Aphids are one of the most common pests infesting plants. Using milk as a natural household remedy, aphids can be removed in a way that is gentle on plants. We will show you exactly how this works in this article.

Milk against aphids: How to remove the pest

The lactic acid contained in milk makes it very easy to remove the pests. The plants are not damaged or contaminated with insecticides in the process, which is why milk is a sustainable method against aphids .

  1. The killing effect is due to the substance lecithin contained in the milk. It covers the aphids like a film, preventing them from breathing and causing them to die.
  2. Mix the natural remedy for aphids milk with water in a ratio of 1:2. For example, a mixture can contain 100 ml milk and 200 ml water.
  3. Optionally, you can also add a drop of oil, which has a similar effect to lecithin and wraps itself around the body of the aphid.
  4. The plant is not harmed by the mixture, as only the aphids are affected. As soon as the milk reaches the aphids, their oxygen supply is stopped.
  5. It is best to fill the milk into a spray bottle to get the leaves everywhere.
It doesn’t matter whether you use UHT milk or fresh milk.

  6. Spray the top and bottom of the leaves in the morning with the mixture. This will allow the plant to dry well for the rest of the day.
  7. Make sure that the leaves are not in direct sunlight, as this can cause burn marks.
  8. If the plants are particularly heavily infested, you can spray them with milk twice a day.
  9. To prevent an infestation of aphids, the mixture can be used once or twice a week.
  10. In addition, the use of milk on the plants prevents powdery mildew.
