Amazon: Hide or archive orders – here’s how

by Michaela

If you don’t want everyone to see your Amazon purchases, you can hide your orders and archive them. If other people have access to your Amazon account, they won’t be able to see your hidden purchases directly.

How to hide and archive your Amazon orders

Unfortunately, you cannot delete orders from your history on Amazon. However, you can hide individual orders and then only view them via a workaround. This is sometimes necessary if, for example, you have bought a gift for someone who also has access to your Amazon account and you want to surprise them. However, you can only use the archiving function via the web version of Amazon in your browser. You cannot archive orders in the Amazon app for smartphones or tablets.

  • Open the Amazon website and log in before clicking on “Returns and orders” in the top right-hand corner.

  • Now find the order you want to archive.

  • Usually below the product and order details, you will find the “Archive order” option on the left-hand side.

  • Once you confirm your entry, the item will be hidden and no longer appear in the list.

  • Note: You can view the item again if necessary via the “Archived orders” list. Currently, up to 500 orders can be hidden.

Problems with shared accounts and Alexa commands

Archiving Amazon orders is a convenient way to avoid revealing gifts you have purchased in advance. However, there are restrictions for shared accounts and Alexa:

  • Even if you hide an order, it is not completely invisible, but simply removed from the normal order overview. It can still be accessed by you and anyone else who has access to your account.

  • If you use a shared household account via Amazon Household, please note that certain purchases may still be viewed by adult members. Complete confidentiality is not guaranteed in such cases.

  • For more privacy, we recommend placing sensitive orders through a separate private Amazon account.

  • Amazon currently does not offer any way to hide orders from Alexa voice profiles. If Alexa is linked to your account, it can reveal information about orders, for example in response to voice commands such as “What was my last order?”. In the worst case, Alexa will tell on you.

  • To avoid embarrassing surprises, you should disable voice confirmations and order notifications in the Alexa app or use separate Amazon accounts with separate Alexa profiles.
