Unlike traditional call money accounts, Scalable Capital call money is an interest-bearing custody account for uninvested brokerage balances.
What Scalable Capital offers as call money and how it works
At Scalable Capital, customers receive interest on uninvested amounts from their securities account. These balances are either held as cash in a clearing account at a partner bank or temporarily invested in money market funds. Here is an overview of what you need to know:
- Interest rate for clearing accounts: Currently (as of July 2025) 2.00% p.a., in FREE Broker up to €50,000, in PRIME+ Broker up to €500,000. No further interest is paid on higher amounts.
- Deposit protection: Liquid assets are legally protected up to €100,000 per partner bank (deposit protection fund). If funds are held in money market funds, the European fund standards apply (special assets, no deposit protection).
- Interest credit: Interest is calculated on a daily basis and paid out quarterly.
- Not a traditional account: Scalable Capital does not offer a separate instant access savings account. Instead, the interest-bearing clearing account is a short-term “parking facility” within the Scalable Depot offering.
- Access and management: Everything is done digitally via the Scalable Depot. There is no minimum investment, and transfers are only possible to the reference account on file.
Differences from a traditional instant access savings account and what you should bear in mind
The offer differs from traditional instant access savings accounts in a number of key respects:
- Link to a securities account: The interest-bearing balance is only accessible to securities account customers and serves as short-term liquidity for buying or selling securities. It is not possible to open a separate instant access savings account without a securities account.
- Deposits and withdrawals: Transfers can only be made to the reference account. With traditional call money accounts, several payment terms can sometimes be specified.
- Product type: While banks offer traditional call money accounts as standalone savings products, Scalable Capital’s offering is a purely technical clearing account that earns interest.
- Maximum interest-bearing amount: Scalable Capital has strict limits (€50,000/€500,000 depending on the account model), while banks vary depending on the product or have no cap.
- Area of application: Scalable call money is suitable for short-term parking of uninvested funds from your securities account. Classic call money accounts are better suited for short- and medium-term savings investments.
