If you want to log into Eduroam with your Windows computer, you must first set up the network. We explain the steps you need to take to access the internet via the university hotspots.

Setting up Eduroam on Windows and using university hotspots

Students and university staff can use Eduroam to connect to the internet via the university networks. You need an existing internet connection to download it.

  1. You can download the required certificate either from the Eduroam website or, in most cases, from your university’s website. Incidentally, distance-learning universities such as Fernuni Hagen also participate in the global network.
  2. Download the certificate directly from the Eduroam website, click on the download button, and then select your university or college from the list displayed. You may be redirected to your university’s download page.
  3. Start the installation program after downloading it; it should be located in the download folder in Windows.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen. When prompted, enter your Eduroam login details. Your username is composed as follows: username@name of university.de. The password is your university login password.
  5. Once Eduroam is set up, you can access the network from your Windows computer when you are near an Eduroam access point.
  6. To do this, click on the network or Wi-Fi icon in the info bar at the bottom of the screen and select “eduroam” from the list of available networks.
  7. Enter the access data for the network and you will be connected to eduroam.
