Before traveling to Dubai, it is important to find out about the local power outlets and buy an adapter so that you can charge your devices.
Power outlets in Dubai require an adapter
Are you traveling to Dubai and want to visit the Burj Khalifa, among other things? Then there are a few things to consider when packing. This is because the power outlets in Dubai are different from those in the US. The United Arab Emirates once belonged to the United Kingdom, so the plug standard commonly used there can still be found today.
- This means that power outlets in Dubai are type G. In the US, we have type C or type F. To charge your electronic devices such as smartphones or laptops, you will need an adapter.
- It is best to purchase the adapter online or at an electronics store before your trip. However, you can also buy adapters locally.
- If you do not want to buy an adapter, you can find out in advance from your accommodation what type of power outlet is installed and whether adapters are available. If you are staying in a modern hotel, the power outlets may be adapted to the European standard. Even in inexpensive accommodations, adapters are often available for guests.
No voltage converter needed in Dubai
Not all countries have the same mains voltage. Using a device with too low or too high a voltage can cause problems: your hair straightener won’t get hot enough, your shaver will run very slowly, or your smartphone will overheat. But you don’t need to worry about that in Dubai.
- The mains voltage in Dubai is 220 volts. This is slightly less than in the US (230 volts), but it won’t cause any problems when charging your devices. A voltage converter is therefore not necessary.
- Modern devices with a 100 to 240V rating will work without any problems, as 220 volts is within the tolerance range. You will find the voltage rating for your device on its power supply or charger.
