Secret Santa is particularly popular at Christmas. Some people opt for junk Secret Santa. Instead of a lovingly chosen gift, you receive a “junk” gift that the giver wanted to get rid of.
- Junk gift exchange can be organized in the same way as traditional gift exchange, with lots on which all participants have written their names.
- By drawing lots, you find out in advance who you have to give a gift to, but you don’t know who has drawn your name.
- Depending on the rules, it may be permitted to swap lots with other participants. This should be agreed upon in advance.
- The highlight of junk gift exchange with lots is the moment when the gifts are unwrapped. The more bizarre the gifts are, the more entertaining the whole thing is.
Secret Santa with dice: Exciting game variations for even more fun
The variation with dice adds even more excitement. Here, too, everyone chooses an item they no longer need at home, wraps it, and brings it to the Secret Santa party. Then everyone rolls the dice to receive a gift. The rules for Secret Santa with dice may vary from region to region, and you can also set your own rules. This is how it usually works:
- You roll a six. Then you can choose a gift. If you roll another six, it is forfeited if you already have a gift in your hands. To make it even more exciting, some rules allow you to choose an additional gift if you roll another six.
- If you roll a one, you can unwrap your gift. Some rules also allow you to swap your gift if you roll a one. This keeps the excitement going until the end of the game, when everyone unwraps their gifts at the same time.
- If you roll a two, you must swap your Secret Santa gift with a person of your choice.
- If you roll a three, pass the gifts to the left.
- If you roll a four, everyone passes their gifts to the right.
- If you roll a five, the two people sitting next to you must swap their gifts. Depending on the rules of the game, you can also choose two people to swap with.
- Tip: Set a time limit for the Secret Santa game in advance. Alternatively, you can also agree on a number of throws that must be made before the game ends. Once the time is up, everyone can unwrap their gifts.
