Printer: Delete queue – here’s how

You can delete the queue on a printer to fix printing problems. The procedure is different for Windows and Mac.

Delete printer queue: Procedure for Windows

If your printer is not printing, this may be due to accumulated print jobs. Delete the printer queue to resolve the issue. Proceed as follows:

  • To clear the queue in Windows, navigate to Settings ☻ Devices ☻ Printers and scanners.

  • Select the relevant printer and then click on the Open queue button.

  • In the next window, you will see all the jobs that are in the queue. Right-click on the entries and select Cancel print job to delete them.

  • Alternatively, you can do this in Explorer. Navigate to the folder C:WINDOWSsystem32spoolPRINTERS. Delete all files in this folder.

Removing print jobs from the queue: Procedure on Mac

Follow these steps to delete print jobs from your Mac:

  • Go to System Preferences ☻ Printers & Scanners.

  • Click Open Printers & Scanners.

  • Click the X next to the file you want to delete from the queue.
