The permadeath mode “Steel Soul” in “Hollow Knight: Silksong” is considered the ultimate challenge for experienced players. A single death irrevocably deletes the entire game score. There are two ways to unlock it.
“Hollow Knight: Silksong”: This is the permadeath mode “Steel Soul”
Following “Hollow Knight,” you can now play the sequel, the action-packed Metroidvania video game “Hollow Knight: Silksong,” which was released in early September. You take on the role of the hunter Hornet, who is captured and taken to the mysterious kingdom of Pharloom, where she must fight enemies and solve various puzzles to ascend to the citadel of the empire. In addition to the exciting main story, Silksong offers a special “Steel Soul” mode for pros, in which permanent death applies.
- This means that if Hornet dies in the game, the game score is irrevocably marked as “defeated” and cannot be continued, only deleted.
- There are special rules in Steel Soul mode: the character has no second chance. Every mistake leads to the definitive end of the adventure.
It is not possible to return to previous save points or banks. After death, the only option is to delete the game and start over. - However, every battle and every exploration becomes much more exciting due to the permanent risk: progress and tactics must be absolutely precise. Only experienced players can achieve this.
- One trick to avoid death is to quit the game before saving – this may allow you to avoid a fatal hit.
Unlocking Permadeath Mode: Here’s how
Steel Soul mode is normally unlocked after completing the main story. To do this, you must have played through the game at least once in normal mode and reached the credits. The mode will then be available as an option when you start a new game. There is also a cheat code that allows you to activate this mode immediately.
- In the main menu, “Steel Soul” can be activated in Silksong even before completing the normal game. To do this, users select the “Extras” menu and enter the following code: Up, Down, Up, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right.
- You can enter the combination using either the keyboard or the gamepad (D-pad).
- After successful entry, the screen will flash white briefly as a visual signal. There is also an audible signal – a short sound confirming successful activation.
- After that, the “Steel Soul” option will be available when you start a new game.
- Those who master Steel Soul will receive special achievements, including awards for completing the game without dying once or for completing all content on the extreme difficulty level.
