Like its predecessor Hollow Knight, Silksong is not the easiest Metroidvania. Here are a few tips to help you get started:
- Explore Pharloom as thoroughly as possible. As in Hollow Knight, you can always discover new areas, find upgrades, and optional boss fights.
- Make use of the benches when you need a break or want to save properly. Benches also fully restore your HP without consuming silk.
- Search each area for Shakra. She sells maps and other useful items that make exploring the levels easier and more efficient.
- Look for walls with secret passages. Once you find a suspicious spot, hit it to open the passage. This is important if you want to unlock special items and areas.
- Use the camera to check passages under Hornet beforehand. To do this, press the down arrow key or the D-pad.
- Take your time and return to passages or boss fights later. The more you explore Pharloom, the better upgrades and items you can find for your build, making previous points easier.
- Use the Cocoon outside of combat to save silk. You can also use the Cocoon in boss fights to dodge certain attacks. When you activate Cocoon, Hornet will remain in the exact spot where you activated the ability.
- Don’t skimp on tools. They automatically recharge at banks when you pay with shards. Tools are especially useful for gaining the upper hand in combat.
- Bind rosary beads into rosary chains so you don’t lose them after a knockout. Hornet never loses rosary chains, and you can craft them anywhere in the world.
- Be sure to talk to all the NPCs you meet. The inhabitants of Pharloom provide you with numerous quests, background information, and even items that you shouldn’t miss out on. In addition, certain NPCs are essential for unlocking all endings in Silksong.
- Tip: If you have trouble controlling Hornet with the analog sticks on your controller, use the directional pad instead. This usually makes it easier to control the fast fighter.
Hollow Knight: Silksong: 5 Tips for Combat
Combat is one of the most important features in the game. Mastering the combat system makes encounters with bosses in Hollow Knight: Silksong much easier.
- Memorize the attack patterns of bosses and enemies as quickly as possible. This will allow you to dodge more effectively and react accordingly, making combat much easier.
- Familiarize yourself with the Pogo right from the start. Compared to its predecessor, the attack is performed diagonally, allowing for completely different strategies. You can also use it to jump on enemies and explore further parts of the levels.
- While the knight in Hollow Knight fights defensively and reactively, Hornet relies on high mobility. Take advantage of this to control the arena. Aggressiveness pays off in Silksong.
- Parry attacks by hitting the enemy’s weapon or projectile with your needle at the exact moment of execution. This will deflect the attack or stop it, preventing you from losing health.
- Use crests to customize Hornet’s movesets to suit your preferred play style. The Beast Crest, for example, recharges your life the more you attack.
