Before you buy condoms, you should calculate the right condom size. This is the only way to ensure that the condom does not slip off.
Instructions: Calculating condom size
To find the right size condom, the most important factor is the circumference of the penis when erect, as manufacturers always specify the nominal width of the condom. This is the width of the condom when it is rolled out flat on the floor.
- To determine the right size for a condom, first bring the penis to a fully erect state.
- Wrap the measuring tape or a thin strip of paper tightly, but not too tightly, around the thickest part of the shaft (usually around the middle).
- If you are using a strip of paper: mark the point where the paper overlaps and then measure the length with a ruler.
- The measured circumference is your basis for the nominal width of the condom.
- The perfectly fitting condom is easy to unroll. If the condom is too tight and constricts, or if it is too loose, you should use a different size. It is best to try several adjacent sizes to find the right one for you.

Practical help: Online tools & trial packs
If you are unsure, there are now many digital tools available to help you find your condom size:
- Online condom calculators (e.g., from “My.Size,” “Einhorn,” “Ritex”): Enter the circumference and get the appropriate nominal width.
- Sample packs from condom manufacturers: These contain several sizes so you can compare and test them.
- Condom size templates (printable paper): These allow you to visually check the nominal width.
Why the right condom size is so important
A properly fitting condom is not only a safety factor—it also ensures greater comfort and sensation during sex.
- Condoms that are too small can tear, while condoms that are too large can slip off. A properly fitting condom feels comfortable and causes less friction during intercourse.
- A properly fitting condom is essential for protecting you and your partner from sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy during sex. If the condom slips off or breaks, pathogens can be transmitted.
