The multiplayer mode in Battlefield 6 aims to thrill players with its returning class system, numerous modes, and pure destruction of the playing field.
Battlefield 6 multiplayer: Class system and maps
Battlefield returns to its roots with its sixth installment: the class system is back. But that’s not the only feature of this first-person shooter.
- Battlefield 6 offers four classes to choose from in multiplayer mode. Each of these classes specializes in specific weapons and thus takes on a specific role within the squad.
- Assault soldiers use assault rifles that allow you to jump right into the fray. In contrast, recon soldiers rely on sniper rifles to take out strategic targets from a safe distance.
- Pioneers are the engineers of combat and are armed with machine guns. Instead, you have access to light machine guns with the Support Soldier class.
- Although each class uses a specific type of weapon, you can customize your loadouts with a variety of weapons and equipment. In addition to your signature weapon, each class has different gadgets at its disposal.
- The game is played on nine maps (so far). Eight of these are new, while the popular Operation Firestorm map from Battlefield 3 and 4 has been added. Which maps will be added in the future is currently (as of August 2025) unknown.
- The maps are divided into up to 30 combat zones. These are used for different multiplayer modes. The maps can accommodate up to 64 players at the same time.
- Crossplay is fully supported. You can turn the feature on and off as you wish.
- Note: Tactical Destruction is back in the new Battlefield. You can destroy buildings down to their core and make effective use of this mechanic.
Battlefield 6: All multiplayer modes in detail
Of course, you can look forward to a variety of different modes in Battlefield 6 multiplayer.
- Conquest: In this mode for up to 64 players, you capture control points on the maps to earn points. Vehicles play an important role in covering the long distances.
- Escalation: Here, two teams battle for seven control points, which decrease over time. This leads to a final battle for the last control point.
- Rush: Capture or defend sectors with M-COM stations in this classic mode. This mode also focuses heavily on environmental destruction.
- Breakthrough: Control points play an important role here. One part of the team holds a front while the other tries to capture new sectors. This is intended to make the battles much more tactical.
- King of the Hill: Another classic mode where the team that reaches a certain number of points or conquers a certain number of sectors first wins.
- Domination: The smaller version of King of the Hill. Here, you earn points in smaller teams to win the match.
- Team Deathmatch and Squad Deathmatch are also part of the Battlefield 6 repertoire. Here, you fight against the opposing team in fast-paced battles and try to fulfill certain victory requirements.
- Even a battle royale mode is coming to the game. Here, you must fight to be the last person or team standing in an ever-shrinking area. Group dynamics should play a major role in your success here.
- Note: Battlefield Portal is a returning feature from Battlefield 2042 that lets you customize your multiplayer matches with custom rules. Choose maps, modes, visibility, and freedom of movement to suit your taste.
