Multiplayer in Gran Turismo 7 is not available immediately. You must first unlock the mode via single player.
Gran Turismo 7: How multiplayer works
Gran Turismo 7 has designed multiplayer slightly differently than comparable racing games.
- You unlock multiplayer mode after completing the first nine menu books. This can take two to three hours. After completing menu book 9 (Championship on the Tokyo Highway), you will gain access to multiplayer after collecting your reward.
- You can then put your driving skills to the test in classic multiplayer lobbies, couch co-op, or sports mode. Couch co-op uses a split screen and allows you to race against another person.
- For couch co-op, you’ll need two controllers, such as steering wheels or PlayStation 5 controllers. Connect them to the console before the race.
- Note: Apart from local couch co-op, you need an active PS Plus membership for online multiplayer. Without this, you cannot access online multiplayer mode and are limited to couch co-op.
Gran Turismo 7: More info about multiplayer
In addition to couch co-op, Gran Turismo 7’s multiplayer offers other modes that you can play together with others.
- The paddock is a kind of chat room where you can communicate with other players online, select race tracks, and choose a specific region. You can even watch other races from there.
- It is also possible to use the Race Shop. Here you can upgrade your vehicles with tires and other components.
- The multiplayer lobbies can accommodate up to 20 players, including you. You can customize the lobby to your liking, for example, the race tracks or the race mode.
- You can host these yourself or join a lobby. It is also possible to create lobbies exclusively with contacts on your PlayStation friends list.
- In Sport mode, you race for credits and a good position on the leaderboards. Daily races and regular championships are offered to keep things interesting.
