If you have attached the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con straps incorrectly, they will be difficult to remove. There is an effective solution to this problem.
Nintendo Switch Joy-Con strap attached incorrectly: What to do now
If you have attached the Joy-Con straps incorrectly, you should first remain calm and not use force.
- First of all: When attaching the Joy-Con straps, always make sure that you lock them correctly. This will save you from having to worry about any problems later on.
- To release the wrist strap, first locate the lock mechanism. This can be identified by the white plastic part directly on the strap.
- Press this mechanism down to release the Joy-Con strap lock. Then press and hold the release button on the back of the Joy-Cons.
- Once you have done this, you can carefully pull the Joy-Con strap off with a little force. Make sure to always move the strap downwards to remove it.
- You can then reattach the wrist strap correctly. There is a + symbol on both Joy-Cons, which must face each other.
- Slide the Joy-Con strap in from the top. Then secure it with the lock mechanism.
Joy-Con strap attached incorrectly: Further troubleshooting
If you are unable to simply remove the Joy-Con wrist straps from your Nintendo Switch, you will need to try other solutions.
- Grab a toothpick or a piece of cardboard. Unlock the strap and carefully insert the tool between the Joy-Con and the strap.
- Hold down the lock button and use the tool to pull the wrist strap down. This will allow you to apply more force if it is stuck.
- If the wrist strap is stuck and cannot be removed, contact Nintendo Support instead. A Joy-Con repair will be necessary in this case.
