You can use Google Gemini for free and without registering in your web browser if you use incognito mode.
Using Gemini without registration: How it works
Google Gemini, Google’s AI chatbot, has been available for use without registration since March 2025. This puts Google on par with providers such as ChatGPT and enables easy access to AI technology – albeit with a few special features and restrictions.
- Go to the web version of Gemini at gemini.google.com.
- Open the page in your browser’s incognito mode. This is currently the only way to use it without a Google account.
- You will be taken directly to the chat interface, where you can ask questions or formulate tasks.
Important restrictions on anonymous use
Only the most important basic functions are available, without personalization, file uploads, or chat history. A Google account is still required for the full range of functions. However, no data is stored permanently when using incognito mode. Your privacy is protected because all chats are deleted when you close your browser.
- You have access to the basic Gemini 2.0 Flash model, but not to advanced or experimental features such as Flash Thinking, Deep Research, or personalization.
- File uploads are not possible.
- No chat histories are saved. All conversations are lost when you close your browser.
- The AI cannot access your personal Google data.
- Use without registration is currently only available in the web version. The Gemini Android app still requires a Google account.
Will there be a mobile app version for anonymous use?
There is currently no indication that Google is planning or offering a mobile app version of Gemini for anonymous use, i.e., without signing in with a Google account.
- Anonymous use of Gemini is currently only possible via the web version in incognito mode. A Google account is still required for the Gemini app on Android, and there are no official announcements that this will change in the near future.
- One reason for this is regulatory and technical hurdles: New EU concepts for age verification and data protection usually do not provide for true anonymity, but instead work with pseudonyms or domain-specific identifiers that make completely anonymous use difficult or impossible.
- Other messenger and AI apps also generally rely on some form of user identification, even if this is only pseudonymized.
- A mobile Gemini app that can be used completely without registration and anonymously is currently not available and, as things stand, has not been announced. Anonymous use remains limited to the web version in incognito mode for the time being.
