Netflix hacked: Here’s what you can do

If your Netflix account has been hacked, there are not only ways to find out for sure. At the same time, you can usually get rid of the hacker in just a few simple steps.

Hackers have an easy time with the streaming service Netflix, especially if you share your account with multiple users. If you can no longer log into your Netflix account or notice other irregularities that you can’t explain, this could be a sign that your account has been hacked.

• If possible, log in to your Netflix account and click on the “Account” button. The “Recent streaming activity” menu item shows all programs and formats that have been viewed via the account. If you don’t recognize any of the programs, this could be a sign that your account has been hacked.

• Under the “Recent streaming activity” menu item, you can also find further useful information to help you identify the activity, such as the location, device, IP address, and time at which your account was used.

• Hackers often leave further traces behind them – at least if their aim is to take over your account in the long term. Therefore, carefully check the payment information stored: Has your credit card or PayPal account been changed? Check profile names and pictures: Are there any new or renamed profiles? Remove unknown devices under “Account” ☻ “Manage devices.”

• Also, make sure that your email address is current and secure – this is the only way to receive alerts about unusual activity. So use an email address for Netflix that only you have access to and that you check regularly.

• Problems logging in can also occur if your internet connection is weak, for example if you have no internet despite being connected to Wi-Fi, or if there are disruptions to Netflix. So don’t panic and contact Netflix customer service via the app in an emergency.

• However, if Netflix does not recognize your email address when you log in, nor the email addresses of other users of your account whom you have granted access, you can definitely assume that you have been hacked.
