Reposting on TikTok: What’s behind it

by Flo

With the “Repost” feature on TikTok, you can share other people’s content with your followers and contacts on the “For You” page. The feature is now available to all users in the mobile app.

Reposting a TikTok: What it means

Public videos on TikTok can be reposted by other users.

  • These reposts then appear to your own followers as well as people from your saved contacts on their “For You” page.

  • The original creator of the video remains completely intact – this means that all interactions, likes, comments, and statistics continue to count for the original post. This ensures greater reach for the original content without losing authorship.

  • Reposts are not displayed on your own TikTok profile. Instead, they can only be viewed via the repost button with the two arrows. There you can also see which videos you have reposted and the associated likes.

  • TikTok currently does not offer the option to filter reposts or hide them from view – information that may be important to users.

  • Reposts are particularly useful for sharing funny, informative, or interesting content with your community. In addition, you can add your own comment when sharing to add a personal opinion, context, or recommendation – a handy feature that further enriches the interaction.

Instructions for reposting a TikTok

The platform offers a quick and easy way to share a video on TikTok with your followers: reposting, also known as “reposting.” Here’s how it works:

  • Tap the share arrow located at the bottom right of the video.

• A menu will open with various sharing options and information about the video.

  • A yellow “Repost” button will appear in the top bar. Once you tap it, the video will be reposted.

  • Optional: Add a comment. The text field for this is located at the bottom of the video and provides space for your personal message or assessment.

  • If desired, the repost can also be undone by tapping the yellow button again.
