Green tea for children: What you need to know
You should only give green tea to your children if they do not have a tendency to be hyperactive or if they are able to let off steam to their heart’s content.
- Children should also avoid green tea if they suffer from insomnia, concentration difficulties, or a short attention span. If this does not apply to your child, they can try drinking green tea, as it also contains a whole range of healthy ingredients.
- Catechins combat cavity-causing bacteria and sulfur compounds that cause bad breath and can also lead to tooth decay.
- Green tea is antiviral and detoxifying. This means that tea protects against infectious diseases caused by flu viruses. The antioxidants in green tea are also said to have a certain degree of cancer-preventing properties.
- Green tea also improves bone density and strengthens the cardiovascular system.
How to prepare tea for your child correctly
You should serve green tea to your child according to the traditional method of infusion.
- The decisive factor here is the right water temperature. Prepare the tea with water that is no hotter than 70 degrees Celsius, otherwise the tea will lose important ingredients.
- Pour the water over the tea for about 30 seconds, swirl the mixture and then pour away the first infusion. This will rinse out substances from the tea that some people react negatively to. The bitter substances are now also reduced to a minimum.
- Then make the second infusion with a water temperature between 50 and 70 degrees Celsius (depending on the variety). Allow the tea to steep for three to ten minutes. The valuable plant substances usually dissolve after a brewing time of five minutes, but this also depends on the variety.
