If you want to enter the diameter symbol in MacOS, Windows, and Linux, you have to use a specific key combination.
Entering the diameter symbol in Windows: How to do it
In Windows, entering the diameter symbol is very easy:
- Use one of the following key combinations: [Alt] + 0 2 1 6 or [Alt] + 1 5 7. Hold down the [Alt] key while typing the numbers on your keyboard.
- The keyboard shortcut [Alt] + 1 5 5 gives you a small ø instead of a large Ø. Depending on the intended use, this may be more suitable.
- You can also insert the diameter symbol as a special character in Word using the context menu. To do this, select Insert and Symbol from the menu bar and then select the option More Symbols.
- There you will find the option Subset. Select Latin-1 (Supplement), as it is a character from Latin. Click on it and insert it.
- Note: You can also simply copy the character from the Internet. To do this, enter the search term “diameter symbol” and find a page with the symbol to copy it.
