Instagram: Have I been blocked? – How to find out

by Johannes

It is not immediately apparent whether you have been blocked by another user on Instagram. You can only find out indirectly. In this guide, we will show you step by step how to do this.

Blocked on Instagram? Here’s how to find out

If your Instagram account has been blocked by another person, you will no longer be able to find them using the search function. If you enter the person’s name in the search bar, they will no longer be listed. The account will also no longer appear in your list of people you follow. However, this can also happen if the person in question has deleted their account.

  • Visit profile while logged out: To check whether the profile of the person who blocked you still exists, search for the Instagram profile in question on your computer or smartphone while you are logged out. If the account is displayed, you have been blocked.

  • Test it out: To be on the safe side, test it out: Copy the account’s address link, log in with your account, and open the page via the link. If you are then shown that the page is not available, this indicates that you have been blocked.

  • Link trick: Try linking the account in question in a comment and click on the profile name. If the profile cannot be opened or you cannot see any content, this indicates that you have been blocked.

  • Different account: If you have a second Instagram account, try accessing the person’s profile from there. Alternatively, use a friend’s account.

  • Likes and comments: If you have mutual friends with the person’s profile, go to their profiles. See if you can see any comments or likes from the person. If not, this could mean that you have been blocked. However, this trick only makes sense if you know for sure that the person has left comments and likes.

  • Warning: There are numerous tools and apps available online that claim to be able to tell you whether you have been blocked on Instagram. We strongly advise against using these, as they can gain access to your account and login details, spy on other data, and hack your account.

  • Group chats: If you are in a group chat with the person in question, take a look at the group chat list. If the person is not shown in this list, even though they were previously part of the chat, this is another indication that you have been blocked.
