Many fans of the successful crime thriller from Netflix are eagerly awaiting season 2 of Department Q. So far, information is still scarce.

Department Q – Season 2: No release date announced yet

Department Q captivated numerous viewers with its dark story about Carl Morck. However, the second season is still a long way off.

  • Season 1 was released at the end of May 2025 and quickly made its mark on the Netflix charts. However, there has been no announcement about a second season as of August 2025.

  • Despite the series’ success, Netflix has not yet announced its decision. However, a potential release date can be guessed if Department Q continues.

  • Production of the first season, including filming, took about 15 months from the announcement in April 2023. It took about a year until it was broadcast at the end of May.

  • The second season would therefore be expected in mid- or late 2027 at the earliest. We will keep you informed about a potential release date.

Department Q: Possible content of season 2

Department Q is based on the ten-part book series by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen, which offers plenty of material for a possible sequel.

  • Season 1 is an adaptation of the book Mercy. Only the setting has been moved to Edinburgh. The original is set in Stockholm, Sweden.

  • If Netflix decides to adapt the second book in the series, Carl Morck will attempt to solve a 20-year-old case related to the Rorvig file.

  • However, it does not have to be the second book. Theoretically, the cases can all be read in any order. However, it is recommended to follow the chronological order of publication.

  • It is not yet known which book the streaming service Netflix will ultimately choose.
