Blue Prince is a roguelike adventure game in which you must reach the Antechamber and Room 46 in a mansion to claim your inheritance. What sounds quite simple at first is more difficult than expected.
This is the Antechamber in Blue Prince
You play the young Simon, who is the sole heir of his great-uncle Herbert Sinclair. However, there is a catch: Simon will only receive his inheritance once he discovers Room 46 in a mansion consisting of nine rooms arranged in a grid pattern. The rooms themselves are rearranged randomly each time you play. Only the entrance hall in the south and the antechamber in the north are fixed rooms.
- This is the core of the game. The goal is to get from the entrance hall to the antechamber, which is seen as the only connection to Room 46. What awaits Simon on the way or in the antechamber itself is unclear.
- At each door, there are now three rooms to choose from that can be built. There are always rooms that have no exit or lead in the wrong direction.
- The game principle sounds simple, but getting from the entrance to the antechamber is harder than it seems.
How to reach the antechamber
As with any roguelike, Blue Prince is about learning from one playthrough to the next and unlocking new things.
- That’s why you should explore every room first. Even if it’s a dead end, you’ll sometimes find valuable items there.
- So make a note of what you find and where. For example, there are some safes in the mansion that you need to find the codes for. Once you’ve figured them out, just write them down and use them again next time.
- Pay attention to the items you collect. The most important ones are keys, gems, and coins. Gems unlock rarer rooms that give you better bonuses. Coins can be used to buy items that will help you on your way. Keys open locked doors. Therefore, use your items wisely. Without keys, you will eventually get stuck.
- To find keys in particular, it helps to search the rooms thoroughly. A metal detector can be useful here. Therefore, spend your coins on useful items whenever you can.
- Also look for notes in diaries, letters, or similar items. These may seem like mere story material at first, but they often contain clues to new puzzles.
- Keep building new rooms. These will give you access to new puzzles that you can solve to gain valuable new rooms or items.
- Even if your primary goal seems to be to reach the antechamber, it still makes sense to explore. So use your steps, even if you can’t get to the antechamber anymore, to build rooms in empty spaces, for example.
