The question of the oldest country in the world is not easy to answer. It depends on how exactly you define the word country
The oldest country in the world
In order to say which is the oldest country in the world, it depends on the interpretation.
- The oldest republic: San Marino is the country with the oldest unchanged constitution. Founded in 301 AD, the state has hardly changed since then and has retained its sovereignty.
- The geographically oldest country: Egypt can be described as the oldest country with the most continuous geographical borders. Although there have been small territorial changes over time, the shape and area of the country have only changed immediately and have always been oriented towards the Nile. Egypt’s advanced civilization dates back to the fourth century BC.
- The geologically oldest country: The geology of our planet is constantly changing. The continent of Australia consists of land mass that is several billion years old and has changed only slightly since then.
These civilizations are the oldest
Many cultures have their origins in antiquity. In the 4th century BC, various civilizations developed around the same time.
- Egypt: Egyptian history can be traced back to 3100 BC and Egyptian civilization is therefore considered to be one of the oldest in the world.
- China: The Chinese empire is considered to be even older than Egyptian civilization. The Xia dynasty is dated to between the 21st and 16th centuries BC, although the lack of archaeological evidence leaves a large margin of error.
- Mesopotamia: The Mesopotamian Empire emerged as early as the fourth century BC in what is now Iraq. The city of Uruk is considered to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.
- Persia: The early history of the Persians dates back to the sixth century BC. The Persian Empire originated in what is now Iran and is therefore closely linked to the Iranian people of today. It is one of the oldest civilizations in the world.
