Samsung TV does not detect a signal – here’s what you can do

by Mike

If your Samsung TV no longer detects a signal, you will not be able to receive any channels. We will show you how to solve the problem with your TV.

First aid: Samsung TV does not detect a signal

First, check whether a firmware update is available for your Samsung TV, as this can resolve many signal and HDMI issues.

  • Cable: If you receive your TV signal via cable, you should check this first. Plug it in and out and test the connection with another cable of the same type. If there are HDMI problems, disconnect all connected sources from the TV. Unplug the power cord for at least 30 seconds and then reconnect everything in reverse order.

  • Receiver: If you receive your TV signal via an external receiver, you should also look for the cause here. Plug the cable in and out again.

  • CI+ module: If you are using a CI+ module to receive the TV signal, switch off the TV and remove the card briefly.

  • Interference: If you receive the signal via cable, there may also be interference from your provider. These faults are very rare, but may have occurred recently.

  • Satellite dish: If you are using a satellite dish, it must be aligned correctly.

  • Devices with One Connect box: Disconnect them from the TV for a moment and then check the menu. If the problem persists, test other devices or cables to narrow down the fault.

No signal: Start channel search on Samsung TV

If the Samsung TV has lost the signal, a channel search can often help. This may cause your personal channel order to be lost.

  • Press the Menu button on the remote control to open the “Settings”.

  • Open the “Channel reception” category and search for “Automatic channel search”.

  • Select the option and wait a few minutes. In the best case, the signal will now be found again.

  • Note: First, make sure which reception method (cable, satellite, or DVB‑T/T2) is being used, as the menu varies depending on the source.

Last resort: Reset Samsung to factory settings

If none of this helps, the only option left is to reset to the factory settings. This will delete all previous settings on your Samsung TV.

  • Turn on your Samsung TV and press and hold the “Exit” button on the remote control.

  • After about 10 seconds, you should be prompted to reset. Confirm the process.

  • The TV will then reset. This may take a few minutes.

  • Note: The cause may also be due to your home installation, particularly if you have poorly shielded coaxial cables or old distributors. In such cases, you should consult a technician or your network operator.
