What the monthly costs are for Netflix’s streaming service and what you get for your money, you should know.

Netflix subscription: these costs are for streaming

You can subscribe to Netflix at a flat monthly rate. There are four different subscription levels to choose from. These differ primarily in the available picture quality and the number of devices that can be used simultaneously. In all four cases, you can stream without time limits.

  • Standard subscription (with advertising): 4,99€: With this version, you’ll benefit from 1080p resolution and you’ll be able to run two streams at the same time. However, you won’t be able to access all movies and series and you won’t have download options.
  • Basic subscription (without advertising): 7,99 Euro. You can use the Netflix offer on one device with this abotype and also have downloads on one device. Whether it is a PC, laptop, Fire TV Stick, smartphone or tablet does not matter. The movies and series in this subscription option are provided to you in HD-Ready.
  • Standard subscription: 12.99 euros. For that, you watch movies and series in Full HD quality on up to two devices simultaneously. You can also have downloads on two devices.
  • Premium subscription: 17.99 euros. Here you then watch a lot of content in 4K resolution and HDR and get the option to use Netflix on four devices simultaneously and also have downloads on four devices.
  • Although it may seem like it at first glance, sharing your Netflix subscription is not allowed with anyone outside of your household on either the Standard or Premium subscription.
  • In some cases, Netflix offers new customers or users returning after a break a free subscription upgrade upon signing up, so they can then try a more expensive plan for a month at no extra cost. At the end of the trial period, users can switch to the higher subscription tier or continue watching on the original registered subscription.
  • Included in all of the above subscription models since the end of 2021 are also some Netflix-owned games that can be accessed via the Netflix app. The lineup includes games like Dominoes Café, Knittens, Wonderputt Forever, and Stranger Things: 1984, among others.
