Fix error code 0x800705b4: How to proceed
If Windows updates could not be installed completely and error code 0x800705b4 appears, this is often due to installed programs that are interfering with the process.
- Therefore, close and disable all antivirus programs that you have installed. You should also disable Windows Defender, which is enabled by default, for the duration of the installation.
- You should then adjust the Windows update settings. To do this, open the settings and click on “Update & Security”.
- Click on “Advanced options” and disable the option “Get updates for other Microsoft products when you update Windows.”
- To restart the update service, open the command prompt with administrator privileges.
- Enter the command “net stop wuauserv” to stop the update service.
- To restart the service, enter “net start wuauserv” in the command line.
- You should now be able to install the update without any problems.
Further troubleshooting options
If the above steps do not solve the problem, open Windows Troubleshooting.
- To do this, open Settings, click on the “Update & Security” category and select the “Troubleshoot” tab.
- Under “Windows Update,” click on “Troubleshoot.” The system will now perform a scan and automatically fix any problems it finds.
- If this does not help, restart your computer without background services. To do this, open “System Configuration” from the Start menu and switch to the “Services” tab.
- Check the box next to “Hide all Microsoft services” and then click the “Disable all” button. This will stop all services that are not from Microsoft.
- You can prevent the services from starting automatically when you restart your computer by opening the Task Manager.
- In the “Startup” tab, you can prevent the programs listed there from starting automatically by clicking the “Disable” button.
- After restarting your PC, try installing the Windows update again.
