If you cannot find the euro symbol on your keyboard, you can insert it quickly using various keyboard shortcuts.

The euro symbol on the keyboard

On newer devices, the euro symbol is displayed as a subscript on the ‘E’ key. On an older keyboard, you won’t find the euro symbol. However, there is a simple keyboard shortcut to type the symbol.

  1. Hold down the “ALT GR” key (to the right of your space bar).
  2. If you now press the “E” key at the same time, you’ll insert the “€” into your text.

ASCII code for the euro symbol

In programming, so-called ASCII codes are used to represent certain special characters. These codes are standardised and you can also use them when writing text. The code for the € symbol is “0128”.

  1. Hold down the “ALT” key and type the digits “0128” on your numeric keypad.
  2. When you release the “ALT” key, the euro symbol will appear. You can insert various symbols in this way, provided you know the corresponding number combinations.

Inserting the € symbol in Microsoft Word

In Microsoft Word, you can insert a euro symbol using the Symbol function. If you need the € symbol not for Word but in another document, you can simply highlight the symbol, right-click to copy it, and then paste it elsewhere.

  • Click on the ‘Insert’ tab.
  • Click on ‘Symbols’ and select the euro symbol from the list.
