Open AI Sora 2: use it for free

With a little preparation, you can use Sora 2 from OpenAI for free. The invitation code is particularly important.

Use Open AI Sora 2 for free: Requirements

Although Sora 2 is still free to use, access is not readily available to everyone who is interested.

A VPN service is essential, as Sora 2 is currently (as of November 2025) not available in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Sora 2 is currently only available in the following countries:& nbsp;USA, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam. The VPN service you use must support one of these locations.
Of course, you need an Open AI account to use it. If you want to be on the safe side and prevent your account from being blocked, create a new account. You can also use ChatGPT via this account.
Last but not least, you need a Sora 2 invitation code. You can obtain this primarily via the official OpenAI Discord server. Accept the server’s invitation and complete the one-time setup.
Then check the sora-2-codes thread. OpenAI regularly posts codes there that you can use to activate Sora 2.
Alternatively, you can find codes via other Discord communities, Reddit, social media sites such as X or Bluesky. Codes are even offered on eBay, but you should refrain from purchasing them as they are likely to be a scam.

Once you have completed the preparations, follow these steps to use Sora 2 for free:

Start the VPN service and set one of the available countries. Then open either the official Sora website or app.
Log in with your account. In the browser, you will find the Join New Sora button in the lower right corner. Click on it with your mouse to enter your invitation code.
In the app, you only need to enter the invitation code. This is already set on Sora 2.
Once the code has been successfully verified, you can start creating AI videos with Sora 2 free of charge. It is not yet known how long the tool will be available free of charge.
