If you don’t want to pay for a Spotify subscription, it makes sense to record and save the songs. However, you should pay close attention when doing so.
Spotify: Is recording music legal?
First, you should be aware of the consequences of recording music on Spotify.
– You are in a legal grey area when making recordings from Spotify.
– Although it is generally permitted to make a private copy in Germany, Spotify’s terms and conditions exclude such behaviour. You agreed to these when you registered.
– Provided you do not share recorded songs or use them commercially, recording is not a criminal offence.
– However, Spotify may detect the use of external software to record your own content and suspend your account for a breach of the terms of use. Then all your playlists and libraries are lost. In the past, this has happened especially when software has increased the playback speed to extremely high values in order to process music recordings faster.
