Removing hubcaps: How to do it

by Mike

To change a tire or tighten the wheel bolts, you need to remove the hubcap. This can be done in just a few simple steps and is just as easy as installing it.

Removing and reinstalling hubcaps – all the steps

Before you begin, put on work gloves. Hubcaps can have sharp edges and pose a risk of injury. In addition, brake dust is difficult to remove from the skin.

  1. Grasp the trim with both hands so that you have a good grip.
  2. Pull the hubcap toward you with a gentle tug.
  3. If the hubcap does not come off immediately, wiggle your hands back and forth and try again. The trim should now come loose from its anchorage.
  4. Do not use force. The trim covers are usually made of plastic and break easily. If you accidentally damage a hubcap, replace it. Otherwise, there is a risk that you will lose the trim while driving.
  5. Each hubcap has a recess for the valve so that you do not have to remove the cap every time you check the air pressure. To reattach the hubcap, place it on the rim with the recess so that it is positioned directly over the valve.
  6. Now press down on the wheel cover on all sides. You can use the palms of your hands to tap it gently so that the cover is securely in place.
