How does OOONO work? Explained simply

by Pramith

Most drivers will probably already know how OOONO works if they’ve used a speed camera app before. Officially, OOONO is referred to as a traffic alert.

OOONO – how the traffic alert works

How OOONO works can be explained quickly in a few words: this so-called traffic alert is essentially a speed camera warning system with additional functions.

  • However, speed camera detectors are banned in Germany. For this reason, the manufacturer describes the OOONO as a traffic alert that warns of roadworks or accidents. Whilst you can switch off the speed camera warning, whether this protects you from a fine if you’re caught with the OOONO in your car is another matter.
  • In terms of design, the OOONO is quite unobtrusive. The small, round speed camera warning device is finished in a subtle black and can therefore be discreetly attached somewhere on the dashboard. When a warning is issued, two LEDs light up and an audible signal sounds.
  • According to the manufacturer, the Bluetooth device’s software retrieves data from several databases, meaning the OOONO is said to provide fairly reliable warnings. In addition to the well-known blitz.de database, OOONO can access data from over 50 countries, which is constantly updated.
  • You can update the data yourself using the OOONO app, which is available free of charge for both Android and iOS. As soon as a warning comes through, the app opens and displays more detailed information. Unlike the Blitzer Pro app, which costs around five euros as a one-off purchase, the OOONO, at around 50 euros, is not exactly a bargain.
