Senseo isn’t drawing water – this could be why

by Michaela

If your Senseo isn’t drawing water anymore, you’ll have to start your day without your morning coffee. Find out what could be causing this and what you can do to quickly start brewing delicious coffee again in our home article.

Senseo not drawing water – check the water tank

  • When you’re still half asleep in the morning, it’s easy to forget to fill the water tank or to fill it with too little water. Your machine can then only use the water that is available and will switch to fault mode. You should therefore first check whether there is enough water in the tank.
  • It becomes more expensive if you have filled the machine with milk or something else instead of water. The milk is heated in the pipes and forms deposits there. These can only be removed by extensive cleaning or even replacement.

Senseo does not draw water – air bubbles

  • Another reason for the problem may be air bubbles in the suction pipes. These form as soon as your machine is unable to draw in enough water for even a short moment. The air that is drawn in then prevents water from passing through the pipes.
  • You can fix the problem by filling the water tank and starting a cycle. After a while, the air will be pumped out of the pipe and your Senseo will draw water again.

Senseo not drawing water – limescale

  • Hard water in particular clogs the pipes and prevents sufficient water from being drawn in. If you know that your water is very hard, you should descale the machine more often than recommended. Otherwise, we recommend descaling your Senseo every few weeks.

Senseo does not draw water – other defects

  • If you have been able to rule out the causes mentioned above, there are usually more serious problems. These can be problems with the pump or the water tank in general. The water tank has a seal at the bottom, which must be present and intact. If you find that the seal is missing or damaged, you should replace it.
  • If you have problems with the pump or other components of your Senseo, we advise against repairing it. This is very expensive and not worthwhile compared to the cost of buying a new one.
  • Tip: If you still have a warranty claim for the machine, you should make use of it.

Even if the warranty has only recently expired, Senseo may offer you a replacement or repair as a gesture of goodwill.
