If you’ve ever wanted to hang a picture, you know how difficult it can be to get it to hang straight on the wall. With a few tricks, it’ll be easy next time.

A spirit level is probably the most ingenious invention for hanging pictures straight.
- There’s no need to panic if the spirit level isn’t handy at the moment. Many mobile phones now have a water level app pre-installed. If this is not the case, there are numerous such apps available for download in the App Store or Google Play Store.
- First decide where exactly you want the picture to hang later. Make sure you know how many screws you will need. If the picture frame is only hung on a nail, you will have much less work. Screw the nail into the wall. Then you can hang the picture in the middle using the spirit level.
- Hold the spirit level on the picture. If the bubble is in the middle on a conventional spirit level, the picture is hanging straight. The spirit level app usually indicates whether it is held straight by lighting up green, for example. If the spirit level is not yet in the straight position, move it back and forth a little.

- First think about which wall the picture will be hung on. Make sure you know how many screws you need.
- Measure the distance between the points where the picture will be hung later. Now you can already mark the first point on the wall. Now measure the place where the second screw will later find its place with the measurements you took earlier.
- Hold the spirit level between the two screws. If the bubble is in the middle or the app gives a green light, everything is straight. If this is the case, you can now mark the spot for the next screw.
- After you have marked all the points for the screws, screw or drill the nails and screws into the wall. To avoid dust while drilling, you can hold a hoover underneath and collect the dirt directly.
