If your car displays a red P in the indicator light area when starting, you cannot move the car. We show you what the symbol means.
Car: Red P in the cockpit
- The red P stands for the electronic parking brake. Such a parking brake is mainly found in cars with automatic transmission.
- If the symbol is displayed, the electronic parking brake is engaged. This means that the car cannot be moved.
- To drive off, you must open the parking brake again. The symbol is usually displayed before the engine is started.
Control light: Remove the red P in the car
- To move the car again, you must start the engine and put your foot on the brake. In some cases, the parking brake will release itself and the red P will disappear.
- If this is not the case, you must release the parking brake yourself. You will find a button with the same symbol on the center console. If you press the button while your foot is on the brake, the parking brake will be released.
