If you don’t want to do without your washing machine after moving house, you need to secure it for transportation. It is important to attach it correctly.
Transport lock: preparing the washing machine for a safe move
Before you can attach the transport lock so that the drum is not damaged during transportation, you first need to carry out some minor preparatory work.
- Unplug the power cable from the socket and have a bucket or large bowl ready.
- Then disconnect the water hose from the tap. Turn off the tap first, of course, if you have not already done so.
- Hold the opening of the water hose upwards and then place it in the bucket so that the remaining water can run out of the hose.
- Then remove the water hose from the washing machine.
Fitting the transport lock to the washing machine
Before you set to work, you should organize a helper. The transport lock looks slightly different for all manufacturers, but the basic handles are similar.
- First you need to turn the washing machine over, as the transport lock is usually attached to the back of the household appliance.
- Depending on the washing machine model, you will need to remove part of the rear panel before you can attach the lock.
- For many washing machines, the drum must be adjusted accordingly from the front in order to attach the screws for the transport lock – you will need your helper for this.
- Finally, screw the screws into the holes provided and secure the drum so that the washing machine survives transportation intact.
- Tip: It’s best to attach a sticker to the household appliance at the end so that you don’t forget to remove the transportation lock at the new destination.
