SodaStream Won’t Open: Help If It’s Stuck

by Tobias

If your SodaStream won’t open, there could be several reasons. There are also several ways to get it open again. Read here to find out exactly how to do it.

SodaStream Won’t Open: Here’s What to Do

If your SodaStream won’t open, you can usually fix the problem with these two tricks:

  • You may have pressed the button too often or for too long, causing too much carbonation to build up in the cylinder.
  • Wait about five minutes for the pressure to equalize. Then press the machine head down. The container should now open again.
  • It’s important, however, not to force the lever open, as this could actually damage it and render the SodaStream unusable.

SodaStream won’t open: Clean the hooks

The SodaStream’s cylinder head locking mechanism uses hooks. If dirt or limescale builds up on these hooks, the SodaStream often gets stuck.

    • Therefore, clean the hooks of the locking mechanism to minimize friction caused by dirt. Use a cloth, warm water, and a little dish soap. A descaler also helps.
    • It’s also helpful to lubricate the hooks with faucet grease or a similar lubricant. Spread the grease between the hooks by moving the machine head’s latch back and forth several times.
    • Another option: Place the SodaStream in your bathtub or shower and rinse the machine thoroughly with warm water from all sides. Then dry the machine well and let it drip dry. Afterward, you should be able to open the latch again.
    • If none of these solutions work, it’s best to contact SodaStream Customer Service.
