Shipping Luggage: Here’s How It Works Internationally

by Flo

If you want to travel stress-free, you can ship your luggage in advance for international vacations. This saves you the hassle of lugging your bags around.

Shipping Luggage Internationally: Why It Makes Sense

There are many reasons to travel. The longer a trip lasts, the more luggage you’ll generally need. This makes transporting it a hassle.

  • Especially for long trips and stays, it can therefore be less stressful to ship your suitcases to your destination in advance.
  • If you don’t have to worry about your suitcases , you can better take in your surroundings at your destination, allowing you to truly focus on the journey itself.
  • Especially if you’re traveling by bus, train, or plane, luggage can become a costly affair.

Here’s how to go about shipping your luggage

You’ll need to prepare your luggage before shipping it. Before a suitcase can be shipped, it should be packed properly.

  • Before shipping, you should also check with the shipping company to confirm the permitted dimensions and weight limits for your luggage.
  • The weight limit is generally 31.5 kilograms. The standard dimensions are 120 x 60 x 60 cm. If your luggage exceeds this weight, it will be classified as oversized cargo. These dimensions may vary from one service provider to another.
  • Before shipping, it is therefore important to know the dimensions and weight of your luggage so you can communicate this information to the service provider.
  • With some service providers, you can also track your luggage.
  • In most cases, you can print out the online shipping label yourself from the provider’s website.
  • For the actual shipment, the country of pickup and delivery must be specified in advance. Then, a pickup date for the suitcase is arranged with the provider. The suitcase is subsequently shipped before the trip begins.
  • When shipping, make sure that the items and clothing inside the suitcase do not shift. It may also be a good idea to pack the suitcase inside a sturdy cardboard box. Depending on the provider, the shipping label is then attached.
