If your TV receiver is humming, this can be very annoying in the long run and may indicate a fault. In this practical tip, we’ll tell you what you can do to stop the humming.
TV receiver is humming – here’s how to fix it
A humming receiver often indicates a fault. With our tips below, you’ll be able to get rid of the annoying noise:
- First of all, take a look at all the cables. If they show signs of a broken wire or other faults, you should replace them as soon as possible.
- You should take a closer look at the coaxial cable in particular. If the shielding is inadequate, the cable emits an interference signal, which in turn causes the humming. Replace the cable if you’re not sure.
- The humming is often caused by other devices that are nearby and switched on. This is because these devices are poorly shielded. A multi-socket power strip with a mains filter can help.
- In a few cases, the hum may also be caused by the aerial cable. However, this can be prevented with a shielded power filter.
- It is also possible that other nearby devices, such as a cordless telephone system or a microwave, are responsible for the interference. You should therefore try placing these devices a little further away from the receiver.
- Check whether the set becomes hot after a short period of use or whether there is interference affecting picture and sound quality. If this is the case, the set may have a serious fault and you should enquire about a possible repair.
