What is Padlet? It is a versatile online tool that encourages creativity and collaboration. Whether for school, work or personal projects – we’ll explain what Padlet is and how you can make the most of it for your needs.
What is Padlet? A digital noticeboard for creative minds
Padlet is a term that is often used in the context of digitalisation and schools. It is an app designed to help teachers make their lessons more efficient.
- The app focuses on collaboration between pupils. Content can be created, shared, updated in real time and discussed.
- A digital noticeboard offers the possibility to create images, text, drawings, links and much more. Pupils can communicate with one another via live chats and by commenting on posts.
- In practice, this might look like this: pupils are set the task of finding something in their local area, for example plants for their biology lessons. Photos of the plants are taken on their mobile phones and uploaded to the pinboard via Padlet. Any other pupil can now view the photos via the app.
- However, the app is not only suitable for educational use, but is also ideal for businesses, event planning or personal family projects.
The app offers the following advantages and disadvantages
Padlet undoubtedly offers many advantages, but as with any tool, there are also some disadvantages that you need to bear in mind.
- Padlet must be accessed via a digital device, such as a smartphone, PC or tablet. This means that every child must have such a device, or the school must at least be able to provide enough of them. You also need a stable internet connection to use it.
- The app can be used free of charge for up to three pinboards. If you want more, you’ll need to pay a monthly fee. You can choose between different subscription plans, such as for yourself, for a team, a school or a business.
- Padlet is characterised by a user-friendly interface that enables even those with limited technical expertise to create and use digital noticeboards quickly and easily.
- Despite its user-friendliness, the app requires a certain degree of maturity and common sense to be used appropriately. Younger pupils may not yet fully understand this way of working or may use it to get up to mischief.
- One point of discussion concerns Padlet’s data protection, as the app originates from the USA, where the EU’s GDPR does not apply.
- In principle, however, Padlet facilitates real-time collaboration, as users can work on a pinboard simultaneously. This encourages interaction and the exchange of ideas in group projects or classroom settings.
