When you set your cruise control, you let your car regulate your speed, allowing you to drive more comfortably. Read the instructions here on how to use your car’s cruise control correctly.
Setting Cruise Control: Here’s How
If you set your cruise control correctly, you won’t need to use the gas pedal anymore.
- Drive until you reach a speed of at least 65 km/h. Most cars require a higher speed before you can set the cruise control.
- Now keep your foot on the gas pedal to maintain a constant speed and ensure it doesn’t drop below the minimum threshold.
- The cruise control switch is located either on your steering wheel or on levers attached to the steering wheel. Now turn on the cruise control, but keep your foot on the gas pedal.
- If you’re using a lever to activate it, check which direction you need to push it. There may be an arrow on it.
- Once it’s safely activated, you can take your foot off the gas pedal. Afterward, your engine RPM may drop.
- This is how you can tell that the car’s cruise control is on. You should also see an indicator on the dashboard showing that cruise control is active.
- Keep in mind that you may need to reduce your speed again on sections of road with speed limits.
- To deactivate cruise control, press the brake pedal or simply turn it off.
