Hoover no longer sucks: What you can do

Help, the hoover no longer sucks! Read how you can quickly rectify the fault and when you should send the appliance to the workshop.

Vacuum cleaner no longer sucks: This could be the reason

There are a number of things you can check if your hoover stops vacuuming reliably:

  • Most of the time it is a blockage when the suction power suddenly decreases. If a bagged hoover can easily handle even dropped cotton swabs, these can cause a reduction in suction power in the bagless hoover.
  • Bagless hoovers can be completely disassembled and wet cleaned. During disassembly, you will discover the culprit for the lack of suction power.
  • If a hoover suddenly stops sucking, it may also be a defect in the appliance. In the case of cordless hoovers, the battery is often defective and must be replaced.
  • If the cable is broken, there is not enough power getting to the hoover, it will stop vacuuming.
  • If there is a hole in the hose or if it is loose, this can also reduce the suction power.

Fast help after hoover defect

You can temporarily clean the floors at home with a hand brush and shovel and a damp cloth until the defective hoover is fully operational again.

  • If the robot cleaner no longer vacuums properly, it may just need to be emptied. With combi units, the cleaning performance decreases if the cleaning water has to be replaced.
  • Check all cables on the hoover for damage.
  • Rinse the hoover tube. If clear water immediately runs through the pipe, there are most likely no blockages in it.
  • Pet hair can interfere with a rotating hoover brush, causing the hoover to not suck properly. Remove all hair from the hoover brush by hand to provide more suction power again.
  • You can recognise a defective battery, for example, when the battery charging indicators charge as usual, but you cannot switch on the hoover after the charging process is supposedly complete.
  • In case of technical faults, always check first whether you still have a warranty on the hoover.
  • In order to be able to claim under the manufacturer’s legal warranty, you must clean the hoover and filter thoroughly. In many cases, you will have to pay the repair costs yourself for dirty appliances.
  • After the warranty has expired, a small regional workshop can be more cost-effective than repairing the hoover at the hoover manufacturer’s.
