When the PUK is locked, many cell phone owners face a problem: Access to their cell phone is blocked, and important data seems out of reach. But there is a solution.
PUK locked: Now there’s only one solution
You’ll find the PUK number in your SIM card documentation. It’s located directly below the field with the SIM number.
- After seven incorrect attempts, the PUK is locked. The SIM card is then unusable. This means that all stored data—such as contacts or text messages—on the SIM card may be lost. Furthermore, the card can no longer be reactivated, so you must request a replacement from your carrier.
- You must order a new SIM card in the correct format from your mobile carrier. Many carriers will issue you a new SIM card immediately in-store. The cost of a new SIM card is approximately 25 to 35 euros.
PUK: Tips for Avoiding Future Lockouts
A few simple steps can help prevent a PUK lockout from happening in the first place:
- Keep your PUK separate and secure—not on the phone itself.
- Write it down in a place only you know, such as a password manager or a locked document.
- Avoid entering the PUK from memory if you’re unsure. Instead, look it up in your records right away.
- Contact your carrier in a timely manner if you’ve misplaced your PUK, before you run out of attempts.
